In following the National Curriculum Music Programme of Study, we make music enjoyable for all pupils, recognising that some children have particular talents in this area. The children sing, play instruments, listen to music and have opportunities to make their own musical compositions, which they are encouraged to appreciate and evaluate.
Every year we have a programme of opportunities for children to perform, this could be singing or playing their instruments; children are encouraged to share their gifts at a variety of events both within school and at other venues.
Our Key Stage 2 children relish the opportunity to perform at St George’s Hall in Blackburn for the annual Sing Together Concert.
In addition to the provision of Music in the National Curriculum, parents may wish their children to learn a musical instrument. There are a number of places available for tuition, run by the Lancashire Music Service, for KS2 pupils in guitar, keyboard & woodwind. Lessons take place in school during the school day.
There is an additional cost for this tuition of £6.50 per lesson which must be paid for on a termly basis. If you are in receipt of certain benefits and qualify for pupil premium we may be able to offer assistance with these costs. Please contact Mrs Cross or the school office for further information.
If you would like to apply for tuition please complete the application form below and return it to the school office as soon as possible. Children will need to have the requested instrument, bring it into school on the day of the lesson and take home on the same day to allow them to practise, the music teachers are happy to offer advice about this. Children may also need to be assessed by the relevant teacher before being accepted. Please note that a complete term’s written notice is required to cancel lessons.
We operate the ’Assisted Instrument Purchase Scheme’ through The Music Cellar in Preston, this enables you to purchase instruments without paying VAT. The Music Cellar also offer a ‘Student Instrumental Rental Scheme’, for full details of both schemes please visit www.themusiccellar.co.uk.
If your child does not wish to continue with their lessons complete the termination form below which must be returned to the school giving at least one term’s notice. Please note that current Y6 music pupils do not need to do anything. If Y6 pupils wish to continue music tuition in Y7, please contact the music department at their new school.
