Another great performance at football yesterday – ‘I’m very impressed with the commitment and enthusiasm of the girls football team and their coach! Some really close results against much bigger schools and such a shame they conceded a goal just as the whistle went in one of their matches, resulting in a draw.’ Mrs Holden – Governor
This week, all boys in Year 4,5,6 have had the opportunity to represent the school at football.
On Tuesday the Year 6 boys football team went to Grimsargh St Michael’s to play two of their league fixtures. They played brilliantly together for the first time this year, scores St Joseph’s 4-5 St Mary and St Andrews, Grimargh 2- 1 St Mary and St Andrew’s.
On Thursday afternoon the year 5/6 football team went to the Kids Cup 6-a-side competition, they were in a very challenging group, played well but did not get passed the group stages. All boys played very well together and enjoyed their day.
On Friday after school, the year 4/5 football team played against St Lawrence in a friendly and played 4 small matches. They showed enthusiasm, sportsmanship and good skills, which we are looking to develop more in the future.

Year 3 & Year 4 6-a-side Football Tournament at Playfootball
What a fantastic effort from the year 3 and 4 boys who took part in the football tournament today at playfootball. Such positive attitudes, great teamwork & best efforts which all paid off as after a couple of tough matches they sailed through the quarter final match & are now in the semi finals. (To be played at a later date). All boys got a number of goals, even the goalkeeper got one! A big well done to all boys making our school proud, it was great to watch.

Football League Match at Ashton Primary School
After the success of last season our football team was promoted from division 3 up to division 1. On Wednesday the year 6 boys played their first game of the season away against Ashton Primary School.
The promotion to division 1 was a tough challenge in the first half with Ashton dominating the game. In the second half defence was much stronger and we had more opportunities to score. Unfortunately the team lost but they are looking forward to the next game.
We were delighted to be hosting an inter-school 7-a-side football competition, on Wednesday 12th October, which was run by our local police team. There were medals and trophies to be won, kindly sponsored by our PTFA, who also ran a refreshment stall. Dan, from our ‘A Team’ wrote the following report:
On Wednesday 12 October we hosted a 7-a-side football tournament, despite the rain. Several schools came. St Mary & St Andrew’s ‘A Team’, unfortunately, did not make it through to the finals but still had lots of fun playing football. The ‘B Team’ got through to the semi finals and finished 4th overall.
